DOE conducts a variety of analyses when evaluating potential amendments to energy conservation standards. These include market and technology assessments, screening analysis, engineering analyses and a national impact analysis (NIA). For this SNOPR, DOE will rely on its current engineering analysis of microwave ovens to determine the highest level of efficiency improvements that are technically feasible for this product class.
In the engineering analysis, DOE will compare the design parameters of a microwave to a set of energy performance objectives. The engineering analysis will then determine the maximum improvement in energy efficiency that is technologically feasible based on the most advanced microprocessor-controlled model available on the market or in working prototypes, or the maximum reduction in energy consumption that is technically achievable with the current technologies available for this product class.
As part of the NIA, DOE will evaluate the impacts on consumers for every product category, including lifecycle cost savings and simple payback periods ("PBP"). DOE will utilize the Government Regulatory Impact Model, with an adaptation for Cabinet Microwave Built In ovens that can be microwaved, to determine the industry's net present value (NPV).
The impact of manufacturers will be assessed also, and DOE will employ a modified version of the Industry Cash Flow model adapted for this type of product to estimate manufacturing NPV. Finally, DOE will consider the potential impacts on small business manufacturers and other manufacturer subgroups to determine if they could be affected in a different way by these proposals.
Additionally, DOE will consider whether the testing procedures for microwave ovens need to be updated to include active mode energy usage and an active mode energy use measurement. The current test procedures only address the use of standby mode power.
Design
Wall ovens rely on the circulation of hot air evenly while microwaves use waves to cause the water molecules in food items to vibrate and produce heat. Combination wall units combine both appliances into one unit, which is ideal for securing space in the kitchen while offering a sleek modern aesthetic. You must carefully consider your budget and goals before deciding on a combination wall oven. A few of the combo wall ovens we have rated have issues with performance or design.
